Be Bold For Change: International Women’s Day

In the deepest darkest corners of the internet some people like to ask “but why is there no special day for MEN?” To that I say, for most of us living in the Western world, International Women’s Day is essentially an antidote to the misogyny that women face every single day. It also reminds us that there is still so much more work to be done for women the world over. We deserve one day of the year to celebrate women since every other day we pretty much forget to. After all, we’re living in a world where a man can say that he “moved on her like a bitch,” and still become President of the United States.

This year the theme for Women’s Day is “be bold for change”. This is a good reminder of what has always fuelled the feminist movement: bold men and women that push themselves and those around them. This year, American women led one of the biggest marches in US history, while here in Ireland the movement to repeal the eighth amendment is becoming hard to ignore. This Wednesday, take care of yourself and others, but make a conscious decision to be bold for change.
